Kanzashi is the Japanese art of turning fabric into flowers mainly, but the art form has been used to animals and abstract shapes.

This art form has fascinated me for as long as I have been interacting with Japanese culture. And as I have experimented and researched the art form, I have found that there appears to be some form of the art in other cultures like in the Philippine and Ukranian.

The original art form uses silk and rice glue, one problem with that is how fragile the piece is in its original form. I have been working with this medium for about 5 years, with one year alone just spent trying to find ways to strengthen the original art form. From that time researching ways to strengthen my pieces, I have found that using polyester fabric and melting the fabric is currently my best method for constructing my pieces. My official test for any new petal or design is to try and put them apart and let my feathered assistant Casper try and destroy them.

One day I will figure out a method so I can use silk instead of polyester.
